Do you want to nibble a little bit? Are you still hungry after you eat? Do you recall how much meat was in the meal? If you answered none or very little, then you probably will want to add some to your meal. Why?
Researchers at the University of Washington conducted a study on how a high-fat, high-carb, or high-protein meal impacts ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates hunger. In their report, the results showed that a protein-packed meal keeps you more satisfied.
Because of these results, it should now come as no surprised to you if your stomach starts growling after eating those ever yummy rice cakes, salads or cups of yogurt. And if you have checked the food label you already know that meals and snacks of these types have only a small amount of protein.
So to fight those bouts of hunger, learn from the findings of the study and add more protein to you meals.
If you're wondering why protein-packed meals curve your appetite better than the other meals, it probably has to do with the fact that protein takes longer to digest than fat or carbohydrates. Keep this in mind when choosing foods that are satisfying and nutritious.
But be advised that this doesn't mean go out and grab a hamburger. The meat should be low in fat, and if all possible unprocessed. You're trying to add just protein, not extra fat or carbs.
And one last point. Health information only benefits you when you use it. When you do, you'll be realizing your fitness goals sooner rather than later.
